Large corporations are driving America’s renewable energy boom, and they’re just getting started

Large companies are not usually thought of as environmental champions, but they now stand to be one of the most powerful advocates for clean energy in the US. A report released in December 2016 by Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) found that 71 of the Fortune 100 companies presently have renewable energy or sustainability targets, up from 60 companies two years ago.

AEE reported that 22 corporations have committed to powering all of their operations with renewable energy, including Wal-Mart and General Motors. A total of 83 companies from around the world have now committed to going 100% renewable through the RE100 initiative. At the end of 2016 Google announced it will meet its renewable energy target in 2017.
