Endeavour Energy, a NSW grid operator, is tendering for a large-scale battery storage array to reduce network costs for a new housing development west of the Illawarra. The 1MWh battery system will be installed at the planned West Dapto Zone Substation and will be the first battery storage program for the grid operator.
The company has opened a tender to supply, install and maintain a grid scale battery energy storage system, with the proposed substation supplying electricity to 21,560 homes and 5,440 multi-dwellings. Endeavour Energy believes it could reduce network capital costs by $1 million per year by installing the battery storage unit. The unit will also provide opportunities to better manage load, improve load factor and support the introduction of electric vehicles and micro-grids.
