Zen Ecosystems has announced it is partnering with Swell Energy to package smart thermostats with batteries and extend customer savings. The company’s smart thermostat will be bundled with batteries from Swell Energy, an LA-based storage marketplace turned vendor, in what may be the first partnership of its kind.
Storage and smart temperature controls enable a consumer to have greater control over energy consumption. Storage is more costlier and has a longer payback time – a consumer with a limited budget could simply choose a thermostat and start saving in a few months. If a battery already pencils out, then the inclusion of a Zen thermostat will offer more savings for a negligible additional cost.
Swell Energy already has a contract with Southern California Edison to aggregate 5 megawatts of 4-hour duration storage across 3,000 homes for grid services. This partnership will put Zen on the radar of these customers, who might not have heard of Zen’s thermostats.
